INVENTION FILM CAMP brings new and aspiring filmmakers together with established directors, filmmakers, and artists for 7 days of creative collaboration on beautiful Cortes Island. Participants will learn technical skills, produce powerful short films, and build friendships with peers and artist mentors.

INVENTION is fast-paced, engaging, and fun. Throughout the week, you will work in small groups to produce short films about a social or environmental issue that you are passionate about.  An artist-mentor team supports each group, sharing their knowledge and experience in filmmaking, creative writing, theater, and music production.

In the evenings, you will attend presentations by professional filmmakers, providing you with opportunities to dive deeper, and discover what it takes to bring your filmmaking career to the next level.

In addition to being part of a filmmaking team, you will also have a 'family group' which will meet for daily check-ins, and will support you to have the best experience possible.

The films produced in the camp will be distributed through Reel Youth's website, and will be curated into a film festival screening package. Following INVENTION, Reel Youth will support you with hosting a screening of the camp's films in your home community.

This camp is an incredible opportunity for new and emerging filmmakers to have fun, gain skills, and explore new ways to create social change using film. This new network of filmmakers and mentors will support future projects, and will help open doors within the BC arts community.
