Reel Youth is proud to share five new films from the 2026 VOICES of the LAND Online Film Program, led by Reel Youth in partnership with STORYHIVE.

VOICES of the LAND brings young people together online to learn about the Indigenous cultures, traditional practices and ecological knowledge of the lands they feel most connected to. The program invites participants to reflect on their own roles as stewards or guests, and takes a decolonizing approach to understanding land rights, land tenure, dispossession and ongoing efforts to reclaim sovereignty. Over the program, participants listened to Indigenous poetry speak about their relationships to land and colonization, considered the difference between owning land and belonging to it, learned the fundamentals of filmmaking, researched, free-wrote, composed poetry, walked the land, and learned to observe a familiar place from a different perspective. The films are an embodied response to what they learned.

The result is five personal, honest reflections on reconciliation, local history and land rights, told by young people who are still working out where they stand. These films aren’t answers. They are the beginning of a conversation each filmmaker is having with the land they live on and the Nations whose territory it is.

We invite you to watch these films as part of a shared journey toward deeper understanding, respect and reconciliation. Watch them slowly. Then ask the same questions of a place you love: is this my territory? whose territory is this, what happened here, and what is my relationship to it now?
