Troublemakers X — ten years of Troublemakers, and a whole lot to celebrate

This was our tenth year of our Troublemakers Film Program! To celebrate this milestone, we did things a little differently. In response to the rising tide of transphobia in British Columbia, TROUBLEMAKERS X brought together 2SLGBTQIA+ youth to make short documentary films celebrating three brave, beautiful transgender troublemakers.

Through collaborative workshops, mentorship, and hands-on production, ten young filmmakers and three Troublemakers came together to laugh, learn the craft, build real friendships, and make films that honour the trans people at their heart. These films premiered at the Vancouver Queer Film Festival, and will soon reach even bigger audiences through TELUS Optic TV.

Huge thanks to SFU School for the Contemporary Arts/ Woodwoards for generously providing the workshop venue, and to The Parachute Fund, STORYHIVE, the City of Vancouver, and Out on Screen for making the program possible. And most of all — thank you to the filmmakers and the Troublemakers who trusted each other, and us, with these beautiful stories. You are the reason we do this.
